Blog 17: Answer 3

Just like you did for answer 1 and 2 post your:
  • EQ
    • What type of therapy is most successful in finding coping mechanisms for personally-conflicted clients?
  • Answer #3 (Write in a complete sentence like a thesis statement)*
    • IPT (Interpersonal Therapy) is most effective in finding coping mechanisms because it focuses on the relationships between a client and a situation. It doesn’t go in depth with one’s personality.
  • 3 details to support the answer (a detail is a fact and an example)
    • Instead of having to change who you are, you can develop better communication skills through sessions with others instead.
    • It treats depression more effectively.
    • You are able to find other solutions through being more open in your mind rather that doing things out of convenience.
  • The research source (s) to support your details and answer.
    • My mentor
  • Concluding Sentence
    • You don’t need to change in order to make yourself better, you can just be more open to ideas and other solutions.

*Write your answer like you would write a thesis statement.  Please don't give us one or two words or start your sentence with "by". Thanks!

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?
  • For the most part, I just stayed at home to study on my new books on my topic, read about mental disorders online, and worked on my PowerPoint for my project.
2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?
  • The most important thing I have learned is that child development plays a big part into future mental disorders or difficulties. I read a lot about mental disorders online, and found that most are caused by either household and peer pressures.
3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?
  • I would talk to my mentor for this interview. I feel that this upcoming interview would be more important than the rest. I don't really know why, but I really would like to interview my mentor for this. Perhaps its because I feel as though I could ask better questions and have an easier time to communicate with her.

Blog 10: EQ

1.   Review this.  Confirm by stating "I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."

Essential Question
Once a topic is chosen, the student will develop a working essential question.  The purpose of the working essential question is to help the student build a strong foundation of research which will allow him or her to create an essential question that encourages depth and rigor in the chosen topic.  An essential question must:
  • Provide a framework for studies (It calls for breadth and depth of research, Is not a yes/no question)
  • Take a stance (It allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)
  • Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)
I have reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

2.  Review the following EQs and
  • Tell us if each meets the rule of three.
  • Tell why they do or don't.
a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
  • Yes, because the question is specific and there can be many  factors.
b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
  • Yes, because there are factors you can go in depth to find an answer.
c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
  • No, because it would seem hard to go in depth in this.
d.  How can an anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
  • No, because the wording sounds a little strange.
3.  Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project.  The senior team will be meeting with students shortly for EQ revision and approval; you are expected to bring your research notebook to that meeting with your EQ draft written inside in pencil.
  • What is the most successful type of therapy for finding better coping mechanisms and alleviation to a client?

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
  • What is the most successful type of therapy for finding better coping mechanisms and alleviation to a client?

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.
  • Group counseling creates more leeway for an individual to express the troubles and personal conflicts among their peers. The understanding of experience and feelings create a similar environment to support and connect with each other, which can support those people to find their resolve.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
  • My mentor, Sarah Eastwood. Not only has she decided to help me in this project, she has helped me over the years overcome my personal obstacles and negativity. Now she has become one of my closest friends and at the same time, my main source to find interviews, select books, research, and most important: experience.

4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?

  • My mentor is a school psychologist named Sarah Eastwood. I co-facilitate group council sessions with her and have individual one on one sessions with her, I experience both ways of the therapeutic process, and at the same time, find my own resolve to my own personal conflicts.

Blog 5: Mentorship and Research Reflection

1. Mentorship question: Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship?  If you haven't found one yet, describe your experience so far in the search of a mentor.
  • I have found my mentor, her name is Mrs. Eastwood, she is a school psychologist and also my friend. She is my psychologist since the past year, and now I feel comfortable asking her to be my mentor and teach me for my project.
  • A book called the Key Concepts of Psychology, it helped me understand the process of the mind and behavior in a simple, yet detailed way. Its easy for me to understand.

2. Research question: What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?

Blog Assignment 1: 2-Hour Presentations

  1. What initial Lessons did you see?
This is the list of all the presentations I have watched:
  • Insurance
  • Basketball
  • Coaching Softball
  • Information Technology
  • Cal Poly Parking Transportation Services
  • Yearbook
  • Coaching Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Warehouse Operating Management
  • Hippotherapy
  • Electrician
  • High School Basketball
  • Teaching Middle School Math
  • Dressage (Equine)
  • Educational Non-Profit Services
  • Fire Protection

  1. What questions do you have that haven't been answered about the senior project? This can be about the senior project in general, any components or about a presentation topic you saw or what they said.
I have a few questions regarding the Senior Project:
  • How many components are there in total for this project?
  • What are the limitations and restrictions?
  • Is this project applied to anything else other than our academics, such as our college reports?
  • Will it be possible to change our topic of choice around the beginning of the school year?
  • Can we assist other peers regarding this project?
  • What are the most important qualities to search for in mentorship?

  1. What has the most important part of the senior project based on what you are seeing in the Final Lessons?
  • The most important part of the senior project is the overall knowledge of the individual on his or her topic that he or she has chosen, and how he or she applies that topic into the presentation. I know that the scale to pass depends deeply on the content that is provided by that person. If that content is not portrayed properly, then the presentation will most likely become unsuccessful.

  1. What topic are you considering doing and why?
The options of topics that I have are based on my interest and talents. I currently have 4 topics to choose from: Vocal Performance, Photography, Martial Arts (Taekwondo), and Culinary Arts.
  • Vocal Performance
  • I have been singing ever since I can remember. It is my most distinguished talent that I can portray. Since second grade, I was the leading cantor of the church. I was only around 7 or 8 years of age, and still the leading cantor. I almost never had to go to voice lessons. ( I only had 3 or 4 sessions in my entire life.) I also have 2 mentors in mind already since I know them personally and were the ones teaching me in music class in elementary. They are also broadway singers who have performed many times throughout their lives. I want this to be my topic because I am talented, have years of experience, and already 2 mentors in mind that I have known for 12 years.
  • Photography
  • My father always told me that I am talented in photography. It is a hobby we both enjoy. My experience comes from being a yearbook photographer and from taking pictures for people at parties or celebrations. I have also taken the R.O.P. class of photography, so it has extended my knowledge on the subject. I have asked Mr. Jack (Jack Bohlka) if I could get mentorship from him and has told me that I can possibly become an intern if I sign up to be one.
  • Martial Arts
  • There is not a day where I don't think of Taekwondo. Again, I am said to be talented by my peers and Master Sohn. Martial Arts is one of my biggest interests and has helped me define my personality more. Its my favorite sport and is very exciting to have such a good match against your opponent and yet improve yourself as a person over time. A good sparring match or training session make my day and it would always relieve the stress that I have because I have fun. I have a possible mentor to help my study in the topic, which is Master Sohn.
  • Culinary Arts
  • I love food. I love to eat food. I love to make food. I cook whenever I have the chance. When I give my friends something I've made, they always ask for more, and it makes me feel so accomplished. Sometimes, they'll take seconds while I turn away. I know that because they have it in their hands. I can make a variety of cuisines: pastries, entrees, desserts, appetizers, salads, and more. I can certainly use culinary arts as my topic because I enjoy giving out food and seeing people eat it afterwards. My only setback is, that I do not have a mentor for this just yet.

  1. What are you doing for your summer mentorship?
  • During the summer, I will decide my upon the 4 topics I have mentioned and see   which one will keep me interested. When I do choose a topic, I will find mentorship by the people I already know, or someone else who has a higher education on it. I will try to find a mentor who will let me have hands-on experience. I will also study the books that I may have on each topic and see which one most intrigues me. The book(s) I read will be one of my sources of information. Regarding mentorship, I would probably need to have voice lessons with my two teachers and continue singing in the church. That would be my course of action for my topic of Vocal Performance. If I choose Photography, I will ask Mr. Jack if I can be an intern and study on from there in his studio and from the photography books in my home. If  I choose Martial Arts, I will continue taking classes, and perhaps tutor the white belts and younger children while the master is watching the technique that I use to train them. I'll study in an athletic way. My last option, Culinary Arts, is the topic that still needs a possible mentor. I will search for one during the summer if I want to use this topic as my senior project. For now, I'm still deciding on a topic.
